Miss Grian’s’s school presentations are for Pre-K through 5th grade.  The goal of all presentations is the same:  to inspire a love of reading in children, to encourage each child to express his or her unique self through the written word and to encourage people of all ages to go for their dreams. Schools can tailor Ms. McFadden’s visit to meet their needs by choosing any three of the following:

Curious Coatimundis

For younger children, Pre-K through 1st grade, there is a reading of Curious Carmelita, followed by a brief science lesson about the flora and fauna of the Southwest and a coloring page of coatimundis for the children to take home.

Magic Pet Shoppe APCs

2^nd through 3rd graders listen to the first Magic Pet Shoppe book and discuss the “Story APCs” —Action, Problem, Conclusion.  The class then plays writing games and/or creates a Magic Pet Shoppe story as a group.

Turtle Island Tour

Older children  in 4th through 5^th grade are encouraged to read either or both books in the Turtle Island Series before the author visit and think up questions to ask concerning the books and the author’s writing process.  They will also get a chance to do some amazing writing exercises guaranteed to get their creative juices flowing.

One-on-one sessions

Miss Grian also offers 15 minute critiquing sessions with young writers who wish individual help with their writing  (sent to her ahead of time).  She can do up to six one-on-one sessions per visit.

Teacher Training

Ms. McFadden is also available to do in-service workshops sharing techniques and ideas for teachers who want to help their students explore the possibilities of creative writing.

Book Signing/School Fund Raiser

Miss Grian can stay after school to sign books and donates 20% of any book sales back to the school. The school can also sell books before her visit, if desired. This can be a great fund raiser!  Templates of book sale flyers and order forms are available upon request.
